We must save Canada from the communists in General on Tom's Ostentatious Sports Blog

I have been extremely amused by some of the public comments I have been reading about the Liberal-NDP coalition (with a side of Bloc).

One of my favourites was a comment that the opposition parties have no right to circumvent the electoral choice of the majority of Canadians. In case you missed it in my last post, the majority of Canadians did not vote for the Conservative party, the majority voted for other parties. The Conservatives received a plurality of votes, the largest share of votes, but not a majority. In our system of democracy, that means that the Conservatives were required to gain the support of at least one of the other parties in order to govern. They simply have not done that, instead Prime Minister Stephen Harper chose to not take any action on the current economic crisis and miscalculated the opposition parties’ ability to come together in a coalition.

Another comment that I enjoyed was the comment that our country will now be run by communists. I read an article in the Globe and Mail this morning that stated two former premiers, Frank McKenna and Roy Romanow, and two former federal finance ministers, John Manley and Paul Martin, had agreed to serve on a panel of economic advisers for the coalition government. Comrade McKenna is deputy chair of one of Canada’s most socialist organizations, TD Bank Financial Group. And noted socialist/wealthy industrialist, Paul Martin, gave Canada years of balanced budgets as finance minister. The coalition government might as well be advised by Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Castro.

Look, I’m not saying that the coalition government will work or whether it will be better for Canada than a few years more of our benevolent dictator, the Right Honourable Mr. Harper. I know this may be hard for some conservative Canadians to believe but the opposition parties don’t exactly agree on a lot of things. However, they are duly elected representatives of the Canadian people. They have the right to try to make a government work.

The Conservatives are fighting to save democracy in General on Tom's Ostentatious Sports Blog

Canada’s Conservative government, elected only recently with a minority government, is about to be defeated and replaced by Canada’s three opposition parties. According to a Globe and Mail article I read this morning the Conservatives are planning rallies and petitions to protest the deal struck by the three parties. The Conservatives need our support if we are to weather this assault on our great democracy. They were elected as the government, not the three opposition parties; the will of the people must be heard.

REBEL, RISE UP.... Oh wait...

I voted for one of those opposition parties, didn’t I?

And, didn’t the Conservative government only receive 37% of the vote and the opposition parties 54%?

And, don’t I live in a country with a constitutional monarchy, so isn’t this whole thing perfectly legit?

The fact is the will of the Canadian people in the last election was that no party should govern without the support of at least one of the other parties. The Canadian people elected a minority government because they wanted bipartisanship, they wanted compromise, and they wanted a government that would work. That is what they will get with three parties working together. The Conservatives could have courted the support of any one of the three opposition parties and made their government work, but they chose to ignore the will the people and govern as they saw fit, as if they had won a majority. ^ TOP

Maternity Monday: Picking a date in General on The Evolving Dad

Today Melissa had another appointment with her doctor. It's the first appointment that I haven't been able to attend so of course major things were discussed. It seems that the doctor thinks that it's likely that our little girl will be bigger then Jacob and it would be best if we didn't try to go the natural route. So our little girl, baring any unforeseen complications will be born on January 20th. It seems strange to know the probably birthday of our second child. After all the uncertainty and time in the hospital around Jacobs birth it's nice to have at least a plan in place that should prevent a repeat. So now the count down has a definite end date beyond the ambiguous February 2nd. It's kinda exciting, of course that still leaves the question of a name....

Today I’m officially 31 weeks pregnant and I’ve got to say so much has changed in just one short day! I’ve been trying to wrap my head around my doctor’s appointment for the past few hours and I think I’m really in a state of shock at how fast your plans for child birth [...] Read More → ^ TOP

End of the month. in General on The Evolving Dad

I write th is as the day wines down, Melissa has gone to bed and I sit in the living room watching TV and striaghtening up the place a little. It's been a busy month, with all the work around the move and Melissa being 30 weeks pregnant its been hard. But as I sit Here and think about my sleeping family up stairs I know it was for the best. We need the extra space this move provides. Even witfh all the hassel that is involved with moving we were very lucky to have family so ready it give a helping hand. Without them I don't know how we would have done it.

So now its time to get the house ready for Christmas, amd all the fun and family the come with it. It will be a wonderful time, if we can ever get through All these boxes

Just a Go With the Flow Kind of Kid… in General on Mama Melissa

So much is changing in Jacob’s world right now and I feared that he would not be able to handle so much change in such a short period of time…but as always Jacob is proving to be just a “go with the flow” type of child. We’ve tried to involve him in the moving [...] Read More → ^ TOP

Almost done in General on The Evolving Dad

Today we took the last of our stuff out of the old place and finished most of the cleaning. It wouldn't have been possible without all the help we've gotten from family. I'm so glad that it's over... well sorta over we still have to finish setting up the new place. We've made a good start, our living room looks almost together, and so does our kitchen. This is a good thing, it's been a difficult couple of weeks. Through it all Jacob has been a real trooper. It can't have been easier for him, with all the changes and all the time I've been at the other place doing things to get the move complete. But now it's done, tomorrow we go back to the old place to look over the place and give back the keys.  Then it's on to the new place and finding a home for all of our stuff. Wish us luck. ^ TOP

The final stretch in General on The Evolving Dad

Well tonight was another night of moving things from our old place to the new one. I can't beleive we have this much stuff. The good news is that today we moved out everything from the Living Room, Kitchen, Bathroom and Jacob's room. Now all that's left is my computer corner in the bed room. Of course once all our stuff is out we still have to finish patching the walls and painting some of the rough spots. Not to menition return the doors to there horrible pink colour. But that is work for tomorrow. For now I think it's time to sleep. ^ TOP

Is The End In Sight? in General on Mama Melissa

I am so tired of boxes. I’m afraid if one more box enters our new place that I might find myself hurled over the toilet praying to the porcelin god. I want this move to be over with because it feels like the never ending saga but I am praying that the end [...] Read More → ^ TOP

Mostly Moved in General on The Evolving Dad

Tonight was a busy night. With the help of Melissa's family (Lynn, Danny and Jimmy) we managed to move most of our stuff to the new place. There are still a few things that need to go, but the important things like the bed and Coffee maker are in the new place and tonight we are sleeping there, even though it doesn't have a phone or internet connection.

One big change is that Jacob is sleeping in his Big Boy Room. With it's big boy bed for the first time. He really likes the bed, but being able to reach the light switch in his room is inspiring mischief. We're sure he'll settle down once he's used to it.

That's all I have time for now, I'm at the old place using our internet connection to post this while Melissa waits for me to get back before going to bed. It's been a long day and I think we need to get some sleep. ^ TOP

I LOVE Consigning! in General on Mama Melissa

I’ve never ventured into the world of consigning before….well I shouldn’t say ever! There were a few times I did try to sell some clothes on one of the clothing boards I belong too but the buyers were all American and the shipping from Canada to the U.S.A was a killer so I wasn’t [...] Read More → ^ TOP

The Halfway Point in General on The Evolving Dad

Today marks the half way point of this long drawn out move. We got the keys on Friday and we’ve got to be out of Sunday. So today marks the halfway point. We’re moving along pretty well, the new place is ready for us, the work around the house is mostly done, we just have to put up the chair rail in Jacob’s room put frosting on one of the windows and it’s done(There is the babies room, but that can wait till after we’re moved in). Of course we still have to move everything from our house to the new place. That means packing it up and then moving it. The hardest part of the packing has been balancing what you pack and what you keep out, though today we reached a point where pretty much everything goes into a box, and we’ll just have to make do.

Today we've just about finished the kitchen and bathroom. The living room just needs to stop being a living room and it’ll be done in no time.  so that leaves our bedrooms, Jacob's is half done, but it’s hard to tell a toddler that we have to pack away his toys. As for our room, its getting packed away, slowly. I hope to have it and everything ready to move Wednesday or Thursday night, leaving us the weekend to pain and fix up anything that needs fixing in our old place. It’s a lot of work but the end is in sight.
